The Founder

Louis moved to Provo City in 1964 with his wife Mabel and five children at the request of business associates who desired him to help build a new resort, “Heritage Mountain” in Provo City. As part of the project, he was instrumental in moving the Provo City limits to the top of Provo Mountain’s peak, making Provo City the highest elevation for a city in the United States. During this time he organized and operated a successful and respected advertising and public relations agency. Over the years he produced advertising for Brigham Young University and for nineteen years directed advertising, printing and art for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Murdock Travel, The Osmonds, Utah County, Provo City, Utah National Parks Council - BSA, Far West Bank, PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) and many others. As part of his work Louis and Mabel traveled extensively throughout the world and have guided thirty-eight world tours. Twenty-seven of their tours have been to the Holy Land (Israel and Egypt) with the balance to China, Europe and Alaska.

While residing in Provo City he has been instrumental as one of the founders of the Boys and Girls Club of Utah, Far West Bank, America’s Freedom Festival in Provo, and numerous other business and educational institutions. He has been honored with Citizenship of the Year awards, numerous civic and scouting recognitions, and other citations for his service and dedication to the Utah communities.

In 1996 Louis, with his wife Mabel, founded the Crandall Historical Printing Museum on Center Street in downtown Provo. He gives the original idea for its creation to Mabel who felt it could inspire and bless the lives of many people. Louis had been collecting antique printing equipment since 1954. His belongings include presses, type cabinets, stones, paper cutters and other period printing equipment. His drive for perfection in presentation led him to create the world’s most advanced Gutenberg printing museum, the world’s most authentic printing of pages of the Gutenberg Bible, Declaration of Independence, Constitution of the United States, the 1829 Book of Mormon, and the 1850 Deseret News.
